Doctoral Program in Islamic Philosophy and Theology

The Women's Campus of Imam Sadiq University, with the aim of training committed and specialized professors and researchers capable of analyzing and examining philosophical foundations, as well as enriching the domains of Islamic knowledge and addressing the threats and challenges faced by the social sciences and humanities, has established the doctoral program in Islamic Philosophy and Theology for the first time. Another objective of this program is to deepen and expand Sadrian anthropology in order to generate and develop Islamic humanities based on interdisciplinary and integrative studies. Additionally, operationalizing philosophy to advance the social sciences and humanities is among its other goals.

  1. Program Duration 

In accordance with the curriculum framework, this level represents an educational-research phase. The doctoral program in Islamic Philosophy and Theology consists of 44 academic and research credits, with up to 4 remedial credits added at the discretion of the academic department.

The research phase begins after the educational phase. It starts with the submission and approval of a proposal, followed by the preparation of a dissertation, and concludes with its defense. All scientific and research activities of the student during the research phase and the preparation of the dissertation are carried out under the guidance and supervision of their advisor. The student is required to confirm their progress at the end of each semester by presenting a seminar and report for approval by the thesis committee. The dissertation carries 18 credits during the research phase.

Admission Requirements 

  1. Passing the National Doctoral Entrance Exam. 
  2. Being accepted in the "Asma" exam (specific to Imam Sadiq University)
  3. Successful completion of the academic interview and selection process conducted by the university. 

All applicants for the national doctoral entrance exam in Islamic Philosophy and Theology, if eligible and selecting Imam Sadiq University (peace be upon him), will be admitted upon achieving a passing score in the "Asma" Islamic Knowledge Exam and obtaining the required score in the academic-theological interview.

Asma Exam: This exam is held throughout the year. The subjects included in the exam are: Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh), Principles of Jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh), Arabic, Quranic Exegesis (Tafsir), and Foundations of Beliefs (Usul al-Aqaid). If the applicant achieves the required score in this exam, they will be invited to the interview stage.
