Bachelor’s Program in Islamic Studies and Educational Sciences

  1. Introduction

Undoubtedly, the divine religion of Islam has placed balanced nurturing of the diverse dimensions of human personality, the most astonishing creation of God, at the core of its belief systems, ethical frameworks, acts of worship, and social programs, aiming for the attainment of deserved perfection. The universality and excellence of this divine creed are particularly evident in the title of “Islamic education”. Accordingly, if the educational verses of the Holy Quran, the narrations, the conduct of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his household), the teachings of the Immaculate Imams (peace be upon them), as well as the opinions and theories of Islamic thinkers and scholars are contemplated deeply, invaluable educational principles and guidelines will undoubtedly be identified. The validity and credibility of these principles are not based on limited human knowledge but rather on their alignment with divine Islamic teachings.

Imam Sadiq University, Women's Campus, after extensive academic efforts and consultations with experts in various fields of Islamic studies and education, has developed the curriculum for the Bachelor’s program in “Islamic Studies and Educational Sciences”. This initiative aims to create a foundation for fostering the growth and advancement of aware and committed women, capable spouses, and future mothers of Islamic society.

  1. Necessity and Importance of the Field

The field of “Islamic Studies and Educational Sciences” is essential in the university system of the country for several reasons:

  1. The first necessity arises from the role expected of educational sciences as an interdisciplinary field. Educational sciences draw upon findings from various disciplines such as psychology, sociology, economics, and cultural-religious-philosophical data. They emphasize scientific and philosophical methods with the goal of applying these sciences to human upbringing. Given that our religious identity is deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of society, shaping a unique model of humanity, formulating Islamic principles within the framework of educational sciences appears highly necessary. By incorporating Islamic perspectives, a more desirable, efficient, and authentic educational role can be expected from this academic field.
  2. The second necessity relates to the current social system of our country, the Islamic Republic. In the Islamic Republic, where Islam and its teachings profoundly influence the social culture and leadership structure, a well-organized educational system rooted in Islamic thought can strengthen the foundations of the societal structure, especially considering that a significant portion of its stakeholders are women. The interaction between these two fields of study not only introduces new scientific knowledge but also blends it with the vast expanse of Islamic thought, making it more tangible and meaningful for Muslims.
  3. Another necessity is guiding young women toward education and upbringing through an Islamic perspective, creating opportunities for women to contribute effectively in their unique roles within the structure of Islamic society. This also fosters the growth and advancement of aware women, capable spouses, and future mothers who are directly responsible for educating and building the next generation. Moving beyond the modern era and the fading slogans of gender equality, which often ignored gender-specific characteristics, Islamic educational theories recognize that women, due to their existential traits such as empathy, compassion, patience, and emotional tendencies, establish a new paradigm of human relationships capable of addressing many contemporary challenges.
