Woman, Life, Freedom
The Scientific Association of Iranian Family Law and Jurisprudence, in collaboration with the Research and Technology Department of Imam Sadiq University (Women’s Campus), held the first session of a meeting series on the topic of "Hijab and Family" under the theme of *Women, Life, Freedom.* The event took place on Monday, January 6, 2025, in Shahid Motahari Hall at the Women’s Campus.
Dr. Hamzeh Mansouri Kargar (Deputy Coordinator of the Representative Office of the Supreme Leader in Tehran University and Head of the Family and Marriage Center at Tehran University), had his science based and specialized presentation.
His presentation addressed topics such as the latest status of women worldwide, clothing, objectification, dehumanization, and the contrast between casual and committed relationships. Dr. Mansouri emphasized the necessity of Hijab and Modesty in a country, based on the theory of objectification.
He also discussed the primary concern for women which is "violence against women". He explored its causes and consequences through the theory of sexual objectification. The role of media, interpersonal communications and the increasing objectification of women were also discussed. Dr. Mansouri explained how inappropriate and provocative clothing contributes to this trend.
Later on, he stressed that inappropriate clothing reduces women to the lowest level. He noted: “In such circumstances, the male brain perceives and evaluates women as objects. This destroys emotional and compassionate feelings toward women and increases physical violence against them.”
In conclusion, Dr. Mansouri answered the audience and emphasized more on the role of clothing in women's dignity, the psychological effects of self-objectification, its impact in mixed-gender environments, the role of makeup, and the effect of men’s gazes on sexual self-objectification and the influence of the human brain in this matter.
